Epitalon is a lab-built mini-protein made of just four building blocks. In the anti-aging scene it's seen as a remedy against aging and for a longer life. The problem: the exciting results come almost only from animal and cell experiments, often from a single research group — and not from tested human studies.
What is it, really?
Picture a tiny protein fragment of four building blocks, rebuilt from a substance in the pineal gland in the brain. The idea behind it: it's meant to stimulate an enzyme called telomerase. Telomeres are like the protective caps on the ends of your chromosomes — comparable to the small plastic caps on shoelaces that wear down over time. Epitalon is supposed to preserve these caps longer. It's usually sold as a research peptide, so officially only for lab purposes, not as a medicine.

- Stimulating telomerase isn't only harmless: this enzyme also plays a role in the development of tumors — an open question
- Grey-market goods: purity and sterility are unsecured, advertising promises of life extension are not scientifically supported
